How to Change Boot Options Lenovo Yoga

  1. How to access the BIOS Setup
  2. Choosing a boot menu
  3. Start a system recovery

It is not the idea to explain every single option of the above, since many of them are complex and it would be too extensive for such a tutorial like this.

To execute any of the tasks above you need to press the button marked with the red arrow in the picture below:

 IMG_20141130_230118.jpg

Press the button when the Y3P is off! Use a small pointing device, I use the tablet pen of one of my Thinkpad tablets

Once you press the button you will be presented with the following screen:

IMG_20141130_230432.jpg

Use the cursor keys to move up and down, press Enter to choose an option.

1) BIOS Setup

The BIOS is where you can get technical information about your device, as well to change boot parameters and setting up security passwords. Be very careful when changing certain values, since it can affect the way the Y3P works and/or affect performance and security settings.

Information Screen

It gives the hardware details of the Y3P, like CPU, installed RAM, SSD capacity and so on. This is a display only screen, no settings can be changed here:

 Untitled-1.jpg

Configuration Screen

Time and date can be changed in this screen. Furthermore to deactivate the Wireless LAN and enable the Intel Virtual Technology. If you plan to use Virtual Machine software in your Y3P this setting must be enabled

 IMG_20141130_230712.jpg

Passwords can be set up in this section. Secure Boot settings can be changed here.

Primarily designed to protect users from rootkits and other malware attacks by blocking unauthorized executables and drivers from being loaded during the boot process, it must be deactivated if you plan to install Linux or having paralel operating systems

IMG_20141130_230717.jpg

Boot Screen

Boot modes can be selected in this screen, you can disable booting from a USB stick or from a network for example

IMG_20141130_230721.jpg

2) Boot Menu

This option is useful if you have Linux installed (using managers like LILO, GRUB, etc).

If you only use Win8 or higher there ‘s no much you can change.

IMG_20141201_220449.jpg

3) System Recovery

This option will allow you to restore the system to either its factory setup, or to a previous backup done within Windows

A factory set up will leave the Y3P as it was shipped from Lenovo your private data and installed apps and/or programs will be wiped out. So make sure you have an external backup before such a reset

How to disable lines through deleted email in Outlook

When you mark an item on an IMAP e-mail server for deletion, the item is displayed in strikethrough text in the header list. However, the item is not removed from the IMAP mail server until a purge command is used.

NOTE   You can change the view of an IMAP folder so that items marked for deletion do not appear. On theView menu, point to Current View, and then click Hide Messages Marked for Deletion. If you are using the Reading Pane, you must turn it back on after using this command. On the View menu, point to Reading Pane, and then click Right or Bottom.

If you do not purge the deleted items periodically, you might reach and exceed the allotted disk space on your e-mail server. If you exceed your allotted disk space, you might not receive any new messages, or you might incur additional charges from your Internet service provider (ISP).

Manually purge deleted items

To permanently delete the items marked for deletion, do the following:

  1. Click a folder in your IMAP e-mail account.
  2. On the Edit menu, point to Purge Deleted Messages.
  3. Do one of the following:

Purge deleted messages in all IMAP accounts

  • Click Purge Marked Items in “folder.

Only items marked for deletion in the folder that you are in are purged from the IMAP mail server.

  • Click Purge Marked Items in “e-mail account.

All items marked for deletion in any folder for this IMAP e-mail account are purged from the IMAP mail server.

  • Click Purge Marked Items in All Accounts.

All items marked for deletion in any folder for any IMAP e-mail account are purged from the IMAP mail server.

NOTE   You must be working online with the mail server for this feature to work.

TIP   Add the Purge command to a toolbar. On the Tools menu, click Customize. On the Commands tab, under Categories, click Edit. Under Commands, drag the Purge command to a toolbar.

Automatically purge the deleted items

You can configure Microsoft Outlook so that when you switch between folders, any items you have marked for deletion are purged from the IMAP mail server.

  1. Click a folder in your IMAP e-mail account.
  2. On the Edit menu, point to Purge Deleted Messages.

Robo Calls WTF? Finally I Have A Number That May Work, The National Do Not Call Registry 888.382.1222

According to my cell phone carrier; after 13 phone calls from the same number, and them not being able to tell me who was calling me; even though it was always the same number : 123221200143 or 23221200143 , they have no idea who was calling me.  Wow!  With today’s technology, and my skills;  I have no idea where they come from.  I tried blocking the numbers, they still came through.  In fact, I was up all night because it only rings 2 times every 20 minutes.  They explained with the apps that are out there people are able to mask their numbers and there is no recourse.  I tried the “Robo Killer”, and “Call Blocker”, both with four to five stars.  Both were non-productive.  Robo Killer still allowed the calls through, it was neat, but didn’t work.  Call blocker disconnected my calls when the blocked calls came in, and my ringer wouldn’t work when they came in, it was useless.  I called the National Do Not Call Registry at 888.382.1222, Wow! Not a call since.  Please add your number to this registry.  I called my lawyer.  It’s true.  If we are on the list for 31 days, we can take legal action against these people.  Why stop your car in front of people and pretend wiplash?  Let’s cost these guys money for calling us.  I believe we can bankrupt them if everyone joins together and adds their number to the National Do Not Call Registry.  Call my lawyer.   He actually loves this kind of arguing.  Wilson Wages.  http://www.wageslaw.com. Let’s join together and stop these annoying calls.  Hell, let’s sue the living crap out of them.  I’m completely in.  Please join me in my attempt to interupt their days and nights.  I have over 14,000 clients who read my blogs and call me for service.  But I need everyone’s help for this to work.

Update the registry to remove the Office 365 activation prompt

Important: This task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. 1. Close the activation window and all Office apps.

  2. Right-click the Start button Windows Start button in Windows 8 and Windows 10 on the lower-left corner of your screen, and select Run.

  3. Type regedit, and then press Enter. Select Yes when prompted to open the Registry Editor.

  4. On the left side of the Registry Editor, under Computer, navigate to the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\OEM

  5. Right click the OEM value and click File>Export.

  6. Save the key.

  7. After the key is backed up, select Edit>Delete.

  8. Repeat steps 3-6 for the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\OEM

  9. Close the Registry Editor and start Office again.

How to Find Hidden & Saved Passwords in Windows

They may end up in the registry, within credential files, or within the Windows Vault

As you go about your day logging into various websites in your browser or accessing protected file shares on the network, Windows stealthy works in the background and may or may not store your credentials in various locations within the operating system.

These usernames and passwords may end up in the registry, within credential files, or within the Windows Vault. The credentials are stored in encrypted format, but can easily be decrypted using your Windows password. In this article, I’m going to show several tools you can use to view these hidden passwords on your system.

Windows Credential Manager

To get started, let’s talk about the built-in tool called Credential Manager that is in Windows. Click on Start and type in credential manager to open the program.

credential-manager

You’ll notice there are two categories: Web Credentials and Windows Credentials. The web credentials will have any passwords from sites that you saved while browsing in Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge. Click on the down arrow and then click on the Show link.

show-password

So that’s something you should know when you login to an account while using another person’s computer, even if they are someone you trust. You may not want them to know your login credentials.

If you click on Windows Credentials, you’ll probably see fewer credentials stored here unless you work in a corporate environment. These are credentials when connecting to network shares, different computers on the network, or network devices such as a NAS.

windows-credentials

In the same vein, I’ll also mention how you can view Google Chrome saved passwords. Basically, each browser has the same feature, so you can do the same thing for Firefox, Safari, etc. In Chrome, click on the three dots at the top right and then click on Settings. Scroll down and then click on Show advanced settings.

Under Passwords and forms, click on the Manage saved passwords link next to Offer to save your web passwords.

manage-saved-passwords

Here you’ll see a list of all the passwords that you have stored in Chrome. The list may be quite long if you have the save password feature enabled.

Third-Party Utilities

Even though you can find quite a few passwords using the methods above, there are still more saved in other locations on your system. To get to these, you have to use some third party tools. My favorite site for free and clean tools is Nirsoft. There are basically three tools you can use: EncryptedRegViewCredentialsFileView, and VaultPasswordView.

All of these tools can be downloaded, extracted and run without needing to install them. This is great because it doesn’t mess with your system at all and once you are done, you can just delete the files.

EncryptedRegView

When you run the program, you’ll see a dialog box where the Run as administrator box is checked. You don’t have to do anything, just click on OK. The program will then scan the registry and decrypt any passwords it finds in the registry.

encryptedregview

Just arrow through the list and you’ll probably find a handful of gems. In my case, I found two passwords that were useful. Everything else was encrypted text that wasn’t a password.

CredentialsFileView

Instead of double-clicking on this program, you should right-click and choose Run as Administrator.

run-as-admin

On the main dialog that pops up, you’ll need to type in your Windows password at the bottom before clicking OK.

type-login-password

Now you should see a list of various credentials stored on your system. If you’re on a domain, you’ll see a lot more entries.

credentialsfileview

VaultPasswordView

This one works the same way as CredentialsFileView, but instead looks inside the Windows Vault. This tool is especially useful for Windows 8 and Windows 10 users because these two operating systems store the passwords for Windows Mail, Edge, and IE in the Windows Vault.

vaultpasswordview

If you thought those were the only useful password recovery tools from Nirsoft, you’d be wrong. Make sure to check out their entire page on password recovery tools. If you have ever forgotten a password that you have used before, these tools will help you recover them. Enjoy!
